One of the things that makes Hillcrest such a great place is the total family involvement in the school. Everyone gets into the spirit by participating in a variety of different annual fund-raisers held to benefit the Hillcrest community. Whether you prefer to participate more actively (by volunteering your time) or passively (by contributing money, goods or services), there is something that everyone can do and we need all the help we can get, so please get involved! Read below to learn about our biggest fundraising events and how you can participate:

Benefit for Hillcrest

The annual benefit, held every fall, has raised $200,000 in a single night, and is the primary source of funding to underwrite the costs of our computer lab, librarian, music and art education programs, physical education sessions, teachers’ aides and more. The event is full of glamour, glitter and lots of glorious auction items. To read more about the benefit or to find out the names of the winning bidders, visit the benefit website.

Hillcrest Walkathon

The Hillcrest Walkathon takes place in the spring and is the school’s second largest fund-raiser. But calling it a "walkathon" probably isn’t doing it justice. It also includes a small carnival full of games, activities, great food and more, so when the kids aren’t walking laps, they and their siblings have many activities to become involved in. The Walkathon is the kids' way to support the school; they go door-to-door and get their neighbors, families and friends to support them in their efforts to give back to the school. Scrip

Scrip is an easy way for you to support Hillcrest. It requires no change in your buying habits and costs nothing extra. What is it? It’s a resource for fundraising where participating business partners contribute a percentage of grocery, credit card and debit/ATM card purchases to the group of your choice. For e-Scrip, you simply have to register online at escrip.com and designate Hillcrest School PTA as the beneficiary (make sure to select the correct Hillcrest!). One you register, a percentage of the purchases you make with local grocers like Safeway or other merchants will go to benefit our school. Paper scrip is really nothing more than a gift certificate that you can give to someone or use yourself. It can be purchased for stores such as Village Market, Berkeley Bowl, etc., from our Scrip coordinator, Caryn Kramer. If you’d like to purchase paper scrip, contact Caryn at scrip@hillcrestpta.org.

Annual Donation Letter

At the beginning of each school year, the PTA sends out a letter to all the parents of enrolled students asking for a suggested donation of $250 per child. While it is not mandatory that parents donate on behalf of their children, it is one of the largest sources of funds for the school and critical to help fund PTA-sponsored items and events. It may seem like a lot, but compared to the private school alternative it’s a small price to pay.
