Vision:

The vision of Hillcrest School is to provide students with the best learning environment possible to meet the ever-changing demands of our 21st century world. To do this, we will invest in technology as an integral part of classroom instruction. When used effectively, technology changes how students learn. It also transforms the ability of staff to personalize their own professional growth. We expect effective, competent, purposeful, and responsible use of technology by administrators, teachers, and students. Our goal for everyone at Hillcrest School is to use technology to think critically and to solve problems creatively so they become a strong community of 21st century learners.

  • Engagement and learning increase with the effective use of technology
  • Technology supports differentiated learning.
  • Project and inquiry based learning experiences are enhanced with the use of technology.
  • Students active participation in class increases when technology is incorporated effectively.
  • Fluent technology use is required for effective 21st century communication.
  • It is our school’s responsibility to ensure all students are prepared through technological proficiency for the challenges presented by our global security.

2016 – 2017

1. Technological Literacy – Students

Goal: The goal is to design a curriculum that supports student mastery of 21st century technology skills at each grade level.

Activities:

  1. Maintain existing technology equipment to ensure it is current, relevant, and supports student mastery of 21st century technology skills.
  2. Continued use of technology equipment including document cameras, tablet devices, desktop and laptop computers to increase students’ daily interactions with technology.
  3. Maintain existing technology software to ensure it is usable both at school and at home, extending students abilities to practice 21st century technology skills.
  4. Align Hillcrest School’s technology practices with OUSD technology goals and practices and California State Technology K-12 standards.

2. Technology Literacy – Staff (Professional Development)

Goal: The goal is to increase staff access to professional development and to provide differentiated professional learning opportunities based on an assessment of staff and administrator skills.

Activities:

  1. Develop and implement professional development opportunities to assist teachers in using technology to design and plan instructions that support and extend learning for all students.
  2. Develops and implements professional development opportunities to train teachers in the use of available technology to assess student learning, manage assessment data and communicate assessment data.

3. Curriculum and Instruction

Goal: The goal is to maintain 21st century classrooms equipped with the latest technology for student and staff use and to improve academic achievement through the use of technology.

Activities:

  1. Improve wireless connectivity in all buildings to enhance student and staff use of available technology.
  2. Integrate the use of iPads and Chromebooks within regular classroom instruction to increase student achievement in reading, writing, and math through the use of instructional applications.
  3. Maintain student use of current instructional software and web-based programs that are appropriate in age and grade level.
  4. We envision Hillcrest School to be a technology-rich educational environment that promotes 21st century skills and helps prepare students for college and career.
