Hillcrest Walkathon 2019: We are Mighty! Be the Change!
Saturday April 27, 2019
9AM to 3PM

Kids have the power to change the world! What issues do you care about and how can you be MIGHTY to effect positive change in the world? The Hillcrest 2019 Walkathon is coming up & we are getting ready to show our MIGHTINESS by walking, volunteering & pledging to raise funds for important programs at our school! It’s our school’s last large fundraiser of the year & our annual Spring carnival!

Registration is now open so please begin talking with your kids about how many laps they will walk & who they should ask to sponsor them.  It’s their laps and hard work that will allow them to do things they love at Hillcrest like Art, Music, Information Technology, Library, Spanish and so much more.

The class with the most early registrations will win a fun Party! REGISTRATION GETS YOU A FREE T-SHIRT TOO! Parents MUST complete a permission slip & register children to walk in the Walkathon. The class with the most registration by April 8th wins a fun Party (party theme is tbd).


The Annual Walkathon T-Shirt Design Contest starts this week!

The contest sheet will be separately emailed to classes. Please have students work on their drawings at home and completed by May 4th. See the contest sheet for full details. Three winners will be chosen.


Be Mighty! Sign Up to Volunteer!

The Walkathon requires over 100 volunteers throughout the day to execute a successful event. Parents are asked to work only a two-hour shift to set up, take down, and operate various game or food booths at the carnival.

Be Mighty! Lend the Walkathon your Equipment and Gear!

To offset costs of renting equipment, the Hillcrest community pools together its shade covers, Ice chests, etc., needed for the event. Please click here to lend gear now or contact Jessica Brasch. 

Be Mighty and Donate to the Walkathon Carnival Prize Booth! Kids and Parents, the Walkathon Prize Booth needs new or gently used prizes to supplement the items we have to purchase. We try to procure most of these prizes from donations from Hillcrest families and outside businesses to offset the costs of putting on the carnival. Donating toys and gifts is one way that we can recycle and reuse toys that may be perfectly wonderful but lying idle and unused and could be enjoyed by another child. These prizes are for kids who win tickets during the Walkathon Carnival.

We are looking for new and gently used toys, games, stuffed animals like the following items:

·       Cute Stuffies – any type/size, can be gently used but needs to be in great shape

·       Sports team gear – are you a parent with a connection to the Warriors, Giants, A’s, Raiders? These prizes are the most popular!

·       Tiny Toys like leftover from birthday gift bags (these will be used in the 1 and 2 ticket prize bins)

·       Unused toys like craft kits, duplicate lego sets, puzzles, and any other cool kid gifts that are collecting dust in your house

We’re gathering a wide range of prizes for kids across K-8th grades, so if you have something new or in great shape that you think another child would like, drop it in the bin located in the main entryway by the office. Note, please hold donations aside at your home until the strike is over and we are back in school. Please direct questions to Carrie Markowski. Does Your Company Offer CORPORATE MATCHING?

A matching gift is a donation made by a corporation or foundation on behalf of an employee that matches that employee’s contribution to a nonprofit organization. This can double, triple, or even quadruple your contribution!  Following is a list of known Bay Area companies with matching programs. Please check the list to see if your company has a matching program. If your company is not on the list, check with your Human Resources department. Your company may be waiting to donate to our school!
