School Site Council

Every Oakland Unified School District school has a School Site Council (SSC). The SSC is an elected body of parents and teachers representing the Hillcrest community, where parents are elected by the parents, and teachers by the teachers. The SSC meets monthly, usually on a Thursday on Zoom after school – the meetings are open to the Hillcrest Community. The SSC is generally charged with advising the Principal on programs, activities, and expenditures at the school. In particular, the SSC is responsible for reviewing and approving the Single Plan for Student Achievement as well as monitoring progress toward achieving that plan and recommending revisions as appropriate. At Hillcrest, the School Site Council has formed special committees to address issues specific to Hillcrest, including the Long Range Planning Committee (LRPC) (formed in 2007 and still concluding its work) and the Positive School Climate Team (PSCT).

Positive School Climate Team (PSCT)

The Oakland Unified School District mandated that every school have a PSCT, where schools are free to structure their PSCT as appropriate to their site needs. The general purpose of a PSCT is to recommend policies and activities designed to ensure a safe, fair, and equitable educational environment for all members of the school community. A sub-committee of the SSC serves as the PSCT.
