4th/5th Grade Field Trip

Marin Headlands

Dear Families,

The Marin Headlands trip will take place from December 9-11, 2019. Outdoor education will be provided by Naturebridge. More information about the program, accommodations, schedule of activities, etc can be found here. Both 4th and 5th grade will attend together, with a total of three teachers and nine parent chaperones (see below for chaperone information). The children will be divided (by the teaching staff) into groups of approximately 15. Each group will have a Naturebridge staff member and 2 parent chaperones working with them. Transportation will be via school bus to and from Naturebridge.

Please review the ‘Student Expectations’ with your child – they can be found here.

Payment

The cost per child is $330. Payment can be made via PayPal here:

or a paper check can be made payable to Hillcrest PTA. (There is an additional cost of $8 for a total of $338 to use the PayPal link to cover the PayPal costs, but PayPal is preferred if possible).

Please make your payment asap. Thank you!

There are PTA funds available for families in need of financial assistance. Please use this link, and return the form to your child’s teacher. This information will only be seen by the teachers, and will be kept confidential. Our goal is that every child will participate regardless of ability to pay.

Chaperones

We need a total of 9 parent chaperones, and our aim is to split those evenly from each class as far as is possible. Please respond to Ellie Judy (4th grader parents) or Caroline Hyde (5th grader parents) by Monday Oct 28th, 2019 if you are willing to chaperone. (We already have some volunteers – if you have already given your name to Ms. Weinberg you should have received an email from us today confirming your name is already on the list). We will prioritize parents who were not able to attend the 4th grade Coloma trip (for the current 5th grader parents), and aside from that, choose via a random lottery. We’ll confirm chaperones asap and maintain a list of alternate chaperones in case a parent needs to drop out.

Chaperone overview information can be found here, and chaperone responsibilities and expectations can be found here. Please read over these guidelines before you volunteer!

Forms

In order to participate in the Marin Headlands trip, the following two forms must be completed. In an attempt to make the process simpler, the forms may be completed online using the links below.

Planning ahead for packing

Information on packing can be found here. Please involve your child in the packing process so they know where to find their belongings. It could be cold and/or wet, so please pack accordingly. Warm, dry kids are happy kids! Also, please note, NO electronics, and NO food items may be brought on the trip.

Nearer the time, you will be contacted by your child’s parent chaperone, so you will have an opportunity to share any particular information regarding your child in order to make their experience a positive one.

Please reach out with any questions.

Sincerely,
Caroline, Ellie, Janelle, Debra & Heather
